On a gentleman's handshake, Chuck Collings, Jim Teel and Frank McMinn agreed to bonus Charles Nordby based on his promise of Raley's experiencing their highest profits ever. Charles Nordby trusted Chuck Collings, but when he asked for a signed agreement for the bonuses, Collings replied: "Charlie, you don't need a contract, my word is my bond".
But Collings was a wolf in sheep's clothing. Always toting a Bible and inviting Nordby to Bible studies. Charles Nordby didn't realize that Collings used his religion to rip people off.
Later finding out that Tom Raley and Chuck Collings were two peas in a pod and had a history of ripping people off.
Charles Nordby knew that his program would give Raley's almost instant success and profits. And it did. Immediately the company was turned around and experienced profits they had never seen before. Profits that Chuck Collings and Jim Teel knew they were going to have to "bonus" Charles Nordby a lot of money based on their "handshake" agreement.
Because Collings and Teel may have been the biggest criminal shysters that Sacramento has ever known, they devised a plan to avoid giving Charles Nordby his agreed and much deserved bonus money. By this time, they both knew that Raley's was going to become a mega player in Sacramento and Northern California. They knew that this Nordby guy had saved the company and Tom Raley, and the Teel family would become very wealthy because of Charles Nordby.
But how were they going to avoid the big bonus payout?
This is how they did it. They wanted Charles Nordby to leave his consulting business and take employment with Raley's. So they offered Charles Nordby a position with Raley's, and it had the title of "Director of Security". Which in a sense was appropiate since he was securing Raley's to be a grocery store in the future. And everything he did for the company was securing their success.
But what they didn't tell Charles Nordby when they offered him this company position, was the fact that the new position was a "non-bonus able position". Which meant, the bouses they promised him at the very onset would become null and void, and because they didn't tell him, they COMMITTED an ACT of FRAUD. FRAUD is the Crime of Raley's.
Had they told that to Charles Nordby when they offered him the position, he would have never accepted it. He knew the bonuses that he was going to receive based on the instant increase of profits for Raley's, that he was going to be able to take his wife on a long-awaited vacation after having nine children for 30 years.
For the 1st three years of his consulting Raley's to their success, the criminals, Chuck Collings and Jim Teel always made excuses for not giving the bonus to Charles Nordby. After hearing nothing but their lies and seeing ALL the store managers getting bonuses, Charles Nordby abruptly quits in 1976.
He had caught more than 8,000 criminals in the course of his life, but he had never encountered the diabolical criminal mindset that he had encountered with Raley's President Chuck Collings and VP Jim Teel, who would later inherit the entire Raley's company and wealth. A wealth created from his fraud against Charles Nordby.
Charles Nordby learned of the Director of Security position not being a bonus able position from a letter that Chuck Collings had written to Frank Nordby in 1991. But it wasn't until 1994 when Charles Nordby read that letter and realized that he had been defrauded.
Also, by giving him the position with the title "security" in it, was Collings and Teel's very subtle stab in the back of Charles Nordby since people naturally corelate the term security with things like "mall cop", or "shoplifting agent", or even a "Walmart greeter and receipt checker".
Even making Charles Nordby the President or CEO of the company also had a negative connotation since all of Raley's Presidents and CEO's were inept in their positions.
The only appropriate title for Charles Nordby was "Raley's Hero".
