Charles Nordby always stated that Jim Teel was in bed with the grocery clerk's union bosses. While the rest of the union stores would go on strike during labor conflicts, Raley's was always getting the "sweetheart deals" with the grocery unions. Which enabled the Raley's stores to remain open while the rest of the grocery companies had to endure the setbacks of strikers, picketers, sales losses and even customer losses.
